Changing your IP — three ways, and which to choose
Your proxy sits on a real mobile line: changing IP amounts to what a phone does when it loses the network and finds it again.
update Updated
The new IP arrives within seconds. It belongs to the same carrier, in the same range — which is what makes it credible.
1. From the panel
My proxies → the rotation icon on the proxy's row.
That is the normal route: one click, visual feedback, and the displayed IP updates.
2. By short link
Each proxy has a rotation link of the form:
http://<host>/apix/<port>/<token>
Open it in a browser, paste it into a third-party tool, bookmark it: it triggers rotation with no username authentication.
This form exists for resellers and for tools that do not accept URLs containing
username:password@. The token opens only rotation: it gives no access to the proxy itself,
which is what makes it acceptable in a plain URL.
Treat it as a secret nonetheless: anyone holding it can rotate your IP whenever they like, including in the middle of your session.
3. Through the API
curl -u "USERNAME:PASSWORD" "https://frproxy.com/api/v1/rotate?port=15002"
For integrating rotation into your scripts. Full documentation is at the API reference.
When to rotate — and when definitely not
| Situation | Rotate? |
|---|---|
| You inherit an address already blocked by a service (collective punishment) | ✅ Yes — this is the main use case |
| You are opening a genuinely new context (new activity, new client) | ✅ Yes |
| Between two distinct working sessions | ✅ Yes |
| During a logged-in session | ❌ No — see below |
| Out of habit, on an established use | ❌ No — see below |
Why not during a session
Your IP changes in the middle of authenticated browsing. From the platform's point of view the user has just teleported, without logging back in, without interruption. That is one of the most conspicuous signals there is — far more than the address itself.
Close the session, rotate, reopen.
Why not out of habit
It is counter-intuitive: rotating often increases the number of addresses associated with your activity instead of protecting it.
An activity run from a stable address looks like someone who has a home. The same activity seen from five addresses in one week looks like nothing familiar — and trust systems treat the unknown with caution, which is paid for in captchas and verifications.
Stability is comfortable; rotation is a tool for breaking away — leaving an address someone else degraded — not a daily-use tool.
See Compartmentalising what you do.
What rotation does not repair
- A sanction aimed at your account. It applies to the account, the device and often the payment method, not just the address: changing IP changes nothing, and trying to get around it breaches the service's terms. The route is appeal — see Automated moderation.
- A quota reached. Data consumed does not reset with the IP. See the quota.
- A WebRTC or DNS leak. They disclose your real address whatever the proxy's is. See the dedicated article.
How long it takes
A few seconds. During that window the line is unavailable and your requests fail with a timeout — that is normal, it is not a fault. Wait for the panel to come back before resuming.
